Guests have meal while blindfolded during Lights Out Dinner in the Dark

Times-Tribune - 3/19/2019

March 19-- Mar. 19--Reminding people that disability does not equal inability was the mission of the fourth annual Lights Out Dinner in the Dark hosted by The Freeman Foundation on Monday evening. The Freeman Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Travis Freeman who lost his eyesight at 12 years old after undergoing surgery for a severe sinus infection behind his eyes. The Lights Out Dinner in the Dark allows guests to experience eating dinner without seeing. The guests are blindfolded upon arrival and are escorted to their tables where they are served a meal and listen to a featured speaker, all while blindfolded. This year's featured speaker is Lonnie Bedwell, an extreme sports athlete. He was the first blind person to solo kayak the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. -- Photos by Erin Cox
