Literacy program seeks tutors

Middleboro Gazette - 8/17/2017

The Taunton Literacy Council is seeking area residents who would like to share their love of learning.

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with adult students who attend classes at the Taunton Adult Literacy Program. Tutors assist students in obtaining their high school equivalency diploma or help immigrants learn English.

Volunteers are needed to teach reading, writing and math. No prior teaching experience or knowledge of a foreign language is necessary. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and be able to meet for two hours weekly at Taunton Public Library.

Training, teaching materials and ongoing supervision are provided. Tutor training sessions start in September.

More information is available by calling Susan Wladis at (508) 822-2828.

The Taunton Public Library does not discriminate on the basis of disability, and upon request will provide reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to its programs, services and activities. Notification for accommodations must be received at least two weeks in advance of all programs and activities and for some services. To request an accommodation for any of the library's activities related to this tutoring program, call (508) 822-2828 or email Susan.Wladis@bristolcc.edu.
