Fall Brat Fest

11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at American Legion Post 570, 168 N. Main St. Brats, sauerkraut, onions, beans and coleslaw will be served. Cost is $5 for one brat, $7 for two. The game room is open. Come for a meal or stay all day.

Open House & Pancake Breakfast

7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Leland Fire Department, 145 E. Railroad Drive. A free-will donation pancake breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Open House events include Fire Prevention Week information, the Fire Safety House, a membership drive for volunteers, the REACT Helicopter and MD1 mobile doctor (if available) and kids' games.

5:15 p.m. reception, 6 p.m. dinner Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Grandma's Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Road. Dinner includes a choice of three entrées (fish, chicken or beef), soup or salad, dinner rolls, vegetables, dessert and nonalcoholic drink. Cost is $20. A lower cost salad entrée can be purchased for $12. The speaker will be Judge Margaret A. "Meg" Ryan, of the U.S. Military Court of Appeals. She will speak on "Justice in the Military Legal System." She will discuss several landmark cases that have changed the course of military conduct and law.

Charlie's Fall Fling

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Meadowlands Farm, 1320 County Line Road. Charles B. Phillips Library fundraiser will include old-fashioned games, fall crafts, corn maze, juggling performances from Dr. Gesundheit, free popcorn, performance by Sweet Tea & Spurs, hay rides and more. Admission fee is $5 and food will be available at an additional cost starting at 11 a.m.

Sons of Norway Lodge 45th Anniversary

Noon Sunday, Oct. 15, at Pitstick Pavilion, 3401 IL Route 23 in Ottawa. Festivities will begin at noon with a social hour (cash bar), then dinner at 1 p.m. followed by entertainment and guest speakers. New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month ? next, Oct. 14 ? at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St.Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Breakfast Buffet

Quarter Auction

2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Plano American Legion Post 395, 510 E. Dearborn St. Attendees can purchase a bid paddle for $5 or three for $10. First bid called at 3 p.m. Players are encouraged to pre-shop the participating businesses and bring at least one to two rolls of quarters to bid with. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar. The event supports the Plano American Legion Auxiliary's Honor Our Troops care package drive. Messy Munchkins

10:30 to 11:15 a.m. or 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Little ones can squish and smush their way to the benefits of messy play. Children can enjoy as many of the activities as they'd like and stay for as little as 10 minutes or the full 45 minutes. Come dressed for fun. For ages 0 to 5 with a grown-up. Hometown Harvest Celebration

1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Heartland Bank parking lot, 128 S. Depot St. Free events include fire truck rides, wagon rides, the Resource Bank Conference Bike, a doughnut-eating contest, bounce houses, face painting, games and a visit from the Paw Patrol. There will be an Antique and Working Truck and Tractor Show, a local author fair, an open house at the fire department, a blood drive and raffle baskets. Food will be available. Our Sharing Pantry
