Students learn about service dogs

Medical Services and Pathway students welcomed Max, a German Shepard, to the classroom to learn about how Service Dogs support people with disabilities. Owner and handler Sandy Saunders introduced Max to the students and explained how a pet becomes a service or therapy animal.

Mrs. Saunders emphasized that service and therapy dogs must be friendly, patient, and gentle. Most of all, service and therapy dogs must enjoy human contact. Students further learned that support and therapy dogs should never be approached when working. These dogs should remain focused on their owner's needs.

The Medical Services students presented Max with an honorarium with which to purchase his favorite doggie treat.
