BRIEF: Expo provides information, resources

Grand Haven Tribune - 3/23/2018

March 23--Throughout Thursday evening, employers and organizations provided information and answered questions at the Disability Network Lakeshore's Accessibility Expo at the Grand Haven Community Center.

The expo provided people with all abilities the chance to learn more about local resources and career opportunities.

About 30 organizations and employers -- Creative Dining Services, GHSP, Herman Miller, JR Automation Technologies, Mercy Health, Shape Corp., Spectrum Health and Walgreens -- set up booths and spoke with attendees.

Grand Rapids resident Joan Tobar said she and her son, Emilio Tobar, attended the job fair. Joan said she liked the variety of the employers at the event -- from manufacturing, health and other industries.

Emilio Tobar, 21, said he's looking for employment after having been laid off.

"I want to get back into the workforce," he said.

The expo also included presentations about Social Security benefits and guardianship, and a workshop about special-needs trusts. Grand Haven native Lara (Provencal) Capuano gave a keynote presentation about effective advocacy.

The Grand Haven Area Community Foundation sponsored parts of the Accessibility Expo.
