BRIEF: Grand Rapids nursing home worker charged with opioid theft

Duluth News-Tribune - 4/7/2018

April 07--A Grand Rapids nursing home employee allegedly admitted to stealing oxycodone from residents.

Bobbi Jo Vandorn, 38, was charged this week with seven felony counts of theft of a controlled substance after administrators at Grand Village reported the incidents to police in February.

A criminal complaint indicates that Vandorn acknowledged to police that she had an addition and was routinely stealing the opioid medication.

"Vandorn stated that she has been stealing oxycodone, between one and four pills per shift, for an extended period of time," the complaint states. "Vandorn stated that she would target residents that had daily narcotic needs and those with limited memory capacity."

Vandorn has been summoned to appear in State District Court in Grand Rapids on April 23. Each charge carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.
