Five people killed in separate shootings at Texas nursing home and nearby residence

The New York Daily News - 7/28/2018

July 28--Three people were gunned down in a Texas nursing home and another two were found dead at a nearby residence in what police believe to be related incidents.

Authorities reported to Retama Manor Nursing Center in Robstown -- located about two hours south of San Antonio -- around 7 p.m. Friday for reports of an active shooting, according to a statement from the Robstown Police Department. When officers arrived on the scene, the gunfire had already ended and they discovered the bodies of two men and one woman.

"All fatalities were dead on arrival with the threat neutralized," according to the press release.

Another two people, both men, were found dead at the home of one those killed in the nursing home shooting, according to a police press release.

Robstown City Secretary Herman Rodriguez told KRIS-TV that the suspected shooter is believed to be among the dead.

The names of the victims have not yet been released and a possible motive for the shooting is still unclear.

"Current information will remain scarce because we are looking at a murder investigation and not compromising anything that might impede that investigation," Robstown Police Chief Erasmo Flores said in a press release. "Our hearts go out to the victims' families and the residents, visitors and employees at Retama Manor who experienced this tragedy."

The facility was described by authorities as a medium-sized for-profit nursing home with 94 beds. The company operates several centers in the South Texas area.
