Two people indicted in separate Augusta exploitation cases; One arrested, one at-large

Augusta Chronicle - 11/8/2018

Nov. 07--The Crimes Against the Vulnerable and Elderly Task Force has made the first arrest in the state of a person accused of trafficking an elderly or disabled adult.

Brian Christopher Bold, 45, was taken into custody this morning. He was indicted on one count of trafficking an elder adult, one count of exploitation of a disabled adult and five counts of criminal attempt-exploitation of an elder adult. The investigation conducted by the Augusta District Attorney's Office began after the elderly victim's financial institution alerted the DA's office that Bold made multiple attempts to access the victim's money, according to a news release.

The investigation revealed that Bold became a handyman who befriended the woman and began to put himself on her bank accounts to try and obtain her resources. According to the release, Bold gained power of attorney and became the sole beneficiary of the woman's estate by making her sign the documents after multiple trips to an attorney's office.

The Richmond County grand jury also indicted Serena Anne Joyner on Tuesday for one count of exploitation of a disabled adult. Joyner was the caregiver for a disabled veteran, who died in September. After being alerted by a family member, a CAVE Task Force investigation revealed that Joyner had been using the veteran's bank cards to purchase items for herself and pay off her bills, according to the release.

Joyner allegedly stole jewelry from the victim and sold them at pawn shops in the area. She is believed to have fled the area and has active warrants for her arrest, according to the release.
