Geauga Park District hosting 'Inclusive Experience: Amazing Amphibians'

News-Herald - 4/25/2024

Apr. 11—People with developmental disabilities who might like to visit The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township are invited for some close-up experience with resident amphibian friends and their habitats.

Geauga Park District will host "Inclusive Experience: Amazing Amphibians" from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.April 16, during which a naturalist will introduce some various amphibians to view, then lead the group on a walk along the trail to discover some more, according to a news release.

Registration is required for all participants school-aged and up at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org under "Programs & Events," then "April 16" on the calendar, or by calling 440-286-9516.

The paved trail and building to be visited are all wheelchair accessible.

"Exploring Nature is a lot of fun, but it can be a little intimidating for some visitors," Naturalist Nora Sindelar said in the release. "That's why we started offering exclusively inclusive programming, which provides a quiet, calm environment to help certain groups of park users join in on the fun.

"In the past, we've offered these kinds of programs to particular school trips and other groups, but last year we started presenting inclusive programing to the general public," she added. "Needless to say, we're having a lot of fun doing these and exploring the different ways we can all learn and explore."
