Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) is a nonprofit healthcare organization providing comprehensive medical, dental, mental health, and family support services at multiple sites to more than 16,000 patients a year. HMS serves as the only Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in both Hidalgo and Grant counties. HMS is accredited by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Hidalgo Medical Services will become the recognized leader in providing medical, dental, mental health and family support services for everyone in Hidalgo County and the Southwest, as well as a national model for sustainable frontier health services and community development.
Under the direction of Neal Bowen, PhD, Chief Mental Health Officer (CMHO), HMS mental health services may include crisis intervention, psychotherapy, substance abuse, medication management, and psychosocial rehabilitation.
These services are provided to all age groups and include individual and family therapy services for an array of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive difficulties, including to those who suffer from serious mental illness.
HMS mental health services are provided at multiple HMS sites by psychologists, nurse practitioners, telehealth psychiatric care, social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed professional clinical counselors, licensed mental health counselors, licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselors, and mental health medical assistants.
